Wellness

At Ocala Infectious Disease and Wound Center, our focus is on your overall wellness and quality of life. In dealing with infections, it is also important to look at preventative care. Focusing on improving the immune system and how it responds to future invaders can help prevent or prolong the reoccurrence of infections in the future.

Supplements

While antibiotics work to treat infections, supplements work to rebuild the immune system and help with processes like wound healing. Our providers can recommend supplements which will work to improve the immune system, decrease inflammation, and support whole body wellness.

Stem Cell Therapy

Stem cell therapy is a rising frontier in medicine. At OIDWC, we believe some disease processes may benefit from adjunct therapy with stem cells. Stem cells are special cells with the potential to repair damaged tissue and organs. Stem cell therapy can be used by injecting stem cells into joints, around wounds, or other modalities depending on the case.

Not all stem cells are created equal. The most potent types of stem cells we find today include cord blood stem cells and stem cells from the placenta. We use stem cells from the placenta in our facility. These are “immature” cells that possess the ability to produce daughter stem cells or become special defined cells like blood cells, brain cells, heart cells based on the body’s needs. No other cell in the body has this ability to create new cells. Cytokines are also produced which also regulate immune and inflammatory responses.

Researchers believe that these immature stem cells can generate healthy cells to replace diseased cells in the body. Typically it takes six months after stem cell therapy to see a response. The process of repair is slow but for many, beneficial.

Glutathione

Glutathione is a substance that is produced by the liver. It is the most powerful detoxifying agent in the body and also used for maintaining the body’s defense system.  As we age, and if our immune systems are poor, we produce less glutathione. In these instances, supplementation of glutathione may be beneficial. People take glutathione for various different illness or wellness cases, such as:

  • Detoxification
  • Cancer
  • Heart disease
  • Liver disease
  • AIDS
  • Memory loss
  • Osteoarthritis
  • Asthma

Myers’ Cocktail

A Myers’ cocktail is a group of vitamins and minerals that is delivered intravenously into the body for various wellness reasons. The Myers’ cocktail consists of magnesium, calcium, B vitamins, vitamin C, and other supportive nutrients. It has shown effective in quickly increasing vitamins in the body and help with hydration.

Some people do not absorb nutrients as they should due to medication usage, surgeries, inflammation in the gut, bloating, indigestion and food sensitivities. With the Myers’ cocktail, the gut is bypassed and vitamins are delivered directly through the vein into the body. The cocktail is usually given 1-2 times a week, and improvement is usually seen by the 4th dose. Some people experience energy improvement for days or weeks. Many patients with chronic conditions come back every 1-4 weeks when they feel their energy slipping. Patients who get sick often may find an improved immune response and less susceptibility to viral infections.

Other reasons that Myers’ cocktails are beneficial include:

  • Enhanced immune system
  • Improved fatigue
  • Seasonal allergies
  • Chronic fatigue syndromes
  • Acute muscle spasms
  • Fibromyalgia
  • Acute asthma
  • Cardiovascular disease
  • Upper respiratory tract infections
